World Games, 10 medals (4 gold) for the Italian lifeguards

They said it and they did it: the Italians were the stars of the first day of lifesaving swimming at the World Games underway in Chengdu, capital of the southwestern province of Sichuan. It's an Italy with ten medals, like the medals they've won: four golds, four silvers, and two bronzes. The men's 4x50m Pool Lifesaver relay won the gold medal, setting a world record of 1:39.12. The team of Gabriele Brambillaschi, Davide Cremonini, Simone Locchi, and Fabio Pezzotti delivered a solid and well-distributed performance, with Cremonini clocking the fastest time of 14.49. Lucrezia Fabretti also took first place in the 100m mannequin carrying event with fins in 51.09. To close out the program, Italy added two more gold medals and a silver in the 200m Super Lifesaver: Lucrezia Fabretti won in 2:23.09 for the second individual gold medal of the day for the men. Francesco Ippolito was first in 2:06.74, ahead of fellow Italian Fabio Pezzotti, who completed the race in 2:07.01. Three Italians made the podium in the 100m medley: Simone Locchi took silver in 58.15, followed by Francesco Ippolito, third in 58.66. In the women's event, Helene Giovanelli took bronze in 1'09"18. The women's 4x50m Pool Lifesaver relay team took silver in 1'55"14 with Francesca Pasquino (26"76), Valentina Pasquino (37"71), Helen Giovanelli (58"54) and Federica Volpini (56"60). Davide Cremonini also took second place in the 50m mannequin carry in 44"42.
