London, July 13, 2020 – Whatever happens , it will be a diarchy. Yet another final between Sinner and Alcaraz in the space of a few months has erased any remaining doubts: we've likely reached the end of the Big Three , because over the course of five sets and two weeks, it's clear that Djokovic is now struggling physically. But a third wheel who could create difficulties for Jannik and Carlos and insert himself into the battle for the top spot for the next ten years is currently nowhere in sight. All the hopefuls have been rejected in turn, like when you try to jump onto a fast-spinning carousel and are sent flying out. Jannik is already the Italian with the most Grand Slam finals, five, four of them consecutive. Alcaraz hasn't lost since April 20 and has established a solidity that his early arrival at the top level couldn't immediately guarantee. But having smoothed out certain flaws in endurance is a sign of intelligence, which, combined with talent and physique, opens up goals that are impossible for others.

The young age of both suggests that their duopoly could last a long time and that there are all the conditions for a challenge that could excite fans all over the world .

So different and yet so similar, the numbers say they're also the only ones capable of challenging for a virtual yet legendary title, the Grand Slam that Djokovic came so close to achieving in modern tennis, only to be stopped at the last minute. Truth be told, only Sinner, having reached the final on grass as well, has shown he can compete for any slam title on any surface. Beyond the delay caused by the agreed-upon break, the real technical achievement of 2025 is the South Tyrolean's progress on both clay and grass . Reaching the final on any surface is a door to the future, especially since he hasn't yet achieved it in Alcaraz: the Spaniard has never advanced beyond the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

But unlike Sinner, he has already won three out of four Slams, and at Wimbledon he is looking for a hat-trick that would already put him in the wake of legends.
