Modena mocked, the success fades away in the 90th minute: team saved, but must say goodbye to the playoffs

Modena, 9 May 2025 – There is a thin line, very thin, between the real potential sometimes unexpressed and the actual demonstrations on the field. Without a doubt, Modena has struggled to live with its limits for eight months, rarely improving them and stumbling in difficult moments. At the same time, and it is undeniable, when it has highlighted certain qualities it has brought home the points it deserved to pack and finds itself in the ranking position that reflects the path, also in terms of annual investments.
I would like to, but I can't . Modena's season summed up in a few words. The numbers add up, then. Seasoned with a pinch of bad luck, that always accompanies the longest nights, as we know. To accompany the silence of Montagnani in the first half and the cheering in the second, there is, instead, a well-displayed banner : "You have only worn the shirt, never honored it".
Beyuku goes to defense, Magnino to midfield to replace the suspended Santoro in the stands as well as Pedro Mendes and Oliva , Palumbo returns up front and Caso from the 1st minute is certainly the best on the field for his team.
The start is soporific, you can only hear the thousands of people in the away sector and Modena takes a while to get into the game, just enough time to give the advantage to the swallows with an action that is a carbon copy of the one in Carrara: naive foul by Cauz, free kick from the three-quarter line, ball grazed by the same Cauz who scores in the 25th minute. A forceful reaction, in just three minutes the canaries put together a nice move , Di Pardo calls the rushing Caso to score a penalty in motion. Caso himself would have the chance to double the score in open play but instead of shooting first time, he comes back on his right and shoots at Lezzerini.
In the second half, Montagnani wakes up and so does Di Pardo, the protagonist of a giant slalom until scoring a beautiful goal with the outside in the 68th minute. It seems like the end of a nightmare, nothing suggests Brescia will equalize (Gagno had also been miraculous on Moncini in the 82nd minute), Modena with five minutes to go could have played the playoffs on Tuesday with Cesena and yet ... The last ball of the match, in the penalty area, comes out of a back and forth with an accompanying save by Defrel on the line and a final touch by Calvani into the net. Brescia is practically safe unless cataclysms happen, the canaries close the season under a nice bag of whistles . Some people in the stands are saying: "Luckily it's over". Yes, it could be. But the truth, sad if we want, is that this team has not been able to live with its defects and has the position in the standings it deserves.
