Klarna launches its debit card in Italy for paying in three installments at no cost.

Klarna, a global payment services provider, has launched its Klarna Card in Italy. This free debit card introduces the option to split purchases into three interest-free installments ("Pay in 3") directly from the app.
The move comes just days after the integration of the Klarna service among the payment methods for pagoPA notifications within the IO app.
The debit card is positioned as a flexible payment tool, operating on the VISA network and with no annual or monthly management fees. The "Pay in 3" feature allows you to pay for purchases in three interest-free installments, managed entirely through the Klarna app. The offer also includes "Pay Now" and "Pay Later" payment methods and can be used internationally without foreign exchange fees.
Alongside the launch of the free basic card, the company introduced a tiered membership program to offer additional benefits.
Klarna Standard (Free): Offers the card in digital version and basic shopping features.
Klarna Core (€1.99 per month): Includes digital and physical card, partner offers up to €15 per month, travel benefits (including discounted lounge access), and priority telephone support.
Klarna Plus (€7.99 per month): Includes a digital and physical card, 0.5% cashback on all purchases, quarterly discounts with partners, partner offers up to €80 per month, travel benefits, a basic insurance package, and increased interest on Klarna Savings Accounts (+0.1% above the current national rate).
"With the new Klarna Card and subscription program, we want to overturn the paradigm whereby benefits and rewards were reserved for premium credit card holders, offering everyone the opportunity to access valuable experiences... simply, transparently, and without resorting to credit," commented Luigi Traldi, Head of Klarna for Southern Europe.
The decision to launch a debit card is strategic for the Italian market, where 63% of consumers use debit cards for everyday payments, compared to 39% who use credit cards. Klarna data indicates a strong demand for flexibility, with 66% wanting to instantly switch from a debit payment to a "Pay in 3" payment.
The Klarna Card is available to adult EU residents with a tax ID or national identity card. The physical version is included in the Core and Plus paid plans.
