The Meloni government blocks the Sea Watch plane, thus the Piantedosi law will cause dozens of deaths at sea.

Seabird stopped for 20 days
The amendment to the immigration decree extends the applicability of the Piantedosi regulations, which were intended to stop rescue ships, to NGO aircraft.

The Meloni government, which removed a militia torturer from the Hague Court trial and escorted him back to Libya on a state flight where he can continue to torture, does not want witnesses to document the crimes committed by the Libyan militias the Meloni government employs. If one were to reason from a criminal perspective, logic would be flawless. Pursuant to a migrant-killing provision inserted by the Meloni government into the immigration decree approved in October, yesterday the Seabird1 reconnaissance plane of the NGO Seawatch was grounded for twenty days. This aircraft is one of the civilian fleet's aircraft essential for identifying shipwrecked migrants in time before they drown and for video documenting the illegal pushbacks of migrants kidnapped and deported to Libya (and Tunisia) by Libyan (and Tunisian) militiamen.
The amendment to the immigration decree extends the applicability of the Piantedosi regulations designed to stop rescue ships to NGO aircraft. This already happened in November to the Colibrì plane, operated by Pilotes Volontaires, which was later released by the Regional Administrative Court. The notification of the Seabird's detention by ENAC , the Italian Civil Aviation Authority under Minister Salvini, refers to a flight on June 30. It accuses the pilot of " failing to immediately and as a matter of priority inform the competent Air Traffic Services Authority and the National Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, as well as the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres of the coastal states responsible for adjacent areas, of the emergency situation at sea." The attached documentation shows that the emergency at sea, which occurred at 3:25 PM, was reported at 3:43 PM.
The allegations, it would appear, are an 18-minute delay and perhaps the information was sent via email rather than radio. Giorgia Linardi of Sea Watch: "We have never changed our communication methods. They always take place via email with the coordination centers and via radio with those present in the rescue area, as is standard practice. Less than a week after we reported the case of over 90 people abandoned at sea, resulting in the drowning deaths of two children and another person missing in the water, here comes the detention order." The announced appeal will likely not be heard by the specialized sections, but by a magistrate on duty designated for the summer period.
The Meloni government failed to prevent the takeoff of rescue planes with last summer's ENAC circular, which was so poorly written as to be unenforceable. It failed with widespread inspections of aircraft, searching for any technical pretext to block them. It also failed with the breathalyzer rushed to Palermo last year. Now it plans to succeed by using the Piantedosi regulations , which, by seizing ships in port and keeping them away from shipwreck routes, have caused deaths at sea—we will never truly know how many people.
