The mayor of Padua against the red zone in Arcella: a wrong choice

The mayor of Padua, Sergio Giordani, has expressed strong opposition to the Prefect's decision to establish a red zone in the Arcella neighborhood. In an open letter to residents, Giordani stressed that this choice was not only imposed from above, but also represents serious damage to the image of a neighborhood that, in his opinion, does not deserve to be labeled as emergency and dangerous.

“This decision is the result of government propaganda and only serves to satisfy some members of the Northern League,” declared the mayor, highlighting his concern for the repercussions that this measure will have on the community.

A growing neighborhood

Giordani highlighted how Arcella is experiencing a period of transformation and growth, and that assigning a negative label could compromise the efforts made to improve the quality of life of residents. “I am very interested in the image that will be given of a neighborhood that for years has been running faster and faster toward progress,” he said, underlining the importance of positive and constructive communication. The mayor reiterated the need to intensify controls, but without resorting to drastic measures such as the red zone, which do not solve the problems but amplify them.

The community's response

The reaction of the residents of Arcella was mixed. On the one hand, many welcomed the mayor's words, acknowledging that the neighborhood's image has been damaged by political decisions that do not take into account the local reality. On the other hand, some citizens expressed concern about security and called for more controls to address real issues. Giordani assured that law enforcement will continue to work in synergy with the Municipality to ensure a safe environment, but insisted that the solution cannot be the stigmatization of an entire area.
