Siamese Twins Separated Head-On, One Dies

Two Senegalese Siamese twins from two and a half years, arrived in Italy in July 2024, were separated with a 48-hour operation at the San Gerardo in Monza. They presented a cranio-encephalic fusion, with a connection extending between the bones of the skull, the brain tissues and the nervous system vascular. This is a very rare form, one case in 2.5 million. births, with less than 60 separation interventions from 1950 to today. One of the two girls, little T., did not pass the final stage of the surgery, while the twin, D., is now admitted to neurological intensive care, with progressive improvements which - explains the hospital - will allow it for the first time to embark on a journey towards autonomy motor.
