Red Cross, Aurigemma: "Flag will be displayed in the regional council"

"On the occasion of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, I received the Red Cross flag from the President of the Lazio Regional Committee, Salvatore Coppola. The flag will be displayed in the Council: our symbolic gesture aims to give due recognition to an organization that carries out valuable activities, and which last year celebrated its 160th anniversary. Among other things, 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of the drafting of its fundamental principles. The Red Cross is part of an international Movement, and is well rooted in the territory, with over 60 committees in Lazio and more than 14 thousand volunteers (of which about half in Rome and its province)." Thus, the President of the Lazio Regional Council, Antonello Aurigemma, who spoke in the Chamber today, at the beginning of the council session, on the occasion of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day
"Furthermore, we have the honor of having President Francesco Rocca, who has held the role of President of the Italian Red Cross and the International Red Cross. They carry out numerous activities, mainly in the field of healthcare, social inclusion (think of the anti-violence centers). But we must not forget the interventions in areas affected by emergencies; - continues Aurigemma - the blood donation activities and the great commitment to young people, with the Red Cross Youth, which is very active. Up to the fundamental role of assisting the armed forces and public authorities, with two specialized components, such as the volunteer military corps and the corps of volunteer nurses. Or even peace missions, and activities in conflict zones. When we talk about healthcare, we cannot fail to mention the great work done during the Covid emergency".
"The Red Cross, therefore, is a reality that is well present in the territory, at the service of our communities: precisely during the Easter period, thanks to the timely intervention of a group of volunteers from the Itri Committee, an off-duty policeman and the 118 emergency workers, a 60-year-old man was saved in Gaeta (in the province of Latina), who had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Among other things, the Red Cross focuses a lot on the training of volunteers: this aspect, which represents a true bulwark for the entire Movement. - concludes Aurigemma - Their commitment is also a stimulus for us administrators, in the name of solidarity, altruism, especially towards those who have more difficulties. These are values that are particularly relevant today, given that they are the teachings that Pope Francis left us. Finally, I take this opportunity to renew my thanks to the Red Cross for its work, and also for the commitment shown during the days of the funeral of the Holy Father".
