They have been included in the list waiting for kidney transplant 45,066 patients. 64% of the registered on the list are men, 36% women, pediatric patients are 3.4%. This is the balance of the National Transplant Center (Cnt) in the new edition of the quality assessment of kidney transplant activity in Italy in the period 2002-2022; provides an overview of the 38 kidney transplant centers active in our country and of the entire care pathway of the patients. According to the report, the data on rehabilitation are positive Post-transplant: 92.5% of patients are working or able to work to do so, while only 3% are unable to return to work for health conditions. As regards the diagnoses at at the time of registration on the waiting lists, the prevailing one is glomerular nephropathy (39%), followed by renal disease hereditary (20%). 50% of the patients registered on the list are transplanted within the first two years. The 4,599 living donor transplants are performed in 35 of the 38 Italian transplant centers. The donors are for the 62.6% consanguineous: donor mothers represent 29.1%, fathers 12.5%, brothers and sisters 17.9%. In 33.2% of cases instead, those who donate their kidneys are wives, husbands or partners. In living transplants the outcome data are better than Deceased Donor Surgery: 1-Year Survival of adult patients is 98.7%, that at 5 years is 96.8%. Report update comes four years later from the last one, published in 2021, and follows those carried out in 2024 on the quality of heart transplantation, in 2023 on the liver and in 2022 on the lung. "Evaluating the quality of transplants is one of the most delicate and important tasks of the CNT - underlines the general manager Giuseppe Feltrin - because it allows the our Network to analyze in detail the clinical activity and assistance, to identify critical issues and resolve them, with a view to ensuring the right in the best possible way to the health of patients".
