Praemium Imperiale 2025: Marina Abramovic and Eduardo Souto de Moura among the winners.

ROME – Marina Abramovic and Eduardo Souto de Moura are among the winners of the Praemium Imperiale , the most important art prize awarded by the Japan Art Association. This is a sort of Japanese Oscar , awarded annually to the top five talents from architecture to music. All artists contribute in some way to improving the art world's economy in their respective fields. This year's winners are Peter Doeg for painting, Marina Abramovic for sculpture, Eduardo Souto de Moura for architecture, Andrßs Schiff for music, and choreographer Anne Teresa De Keesmaeker for theater/film. "They were recognized for their achievements, their international artistic influence, and their contributions to the global community through their work," said President Lamberto Dini at the presentation of the winners.
A prize of 15 million yenThe artists will receive a prize of 15 million yen (approximately 91,000 euros), a diploma, and a medal: the latter will be awarded by Prince Hitachi, uncle of Emperor Naruhito of Japan and honorary patron of the Japan Art Association, during the awards ceremony to be held in Tokyo on October 22.
The Scholarship for Young ArtistsThe other major award, the Young Artists Scholarship , was awarded to the National Youth Theatre, the world's first youth theatre, founded in London in 1956, with an annual grant of 5 million yen (about 30,000 euros). The winners were announced simultaneously in Rome, London, Paris, Berlin, New York, and Tokyo.
