MIND, an urban regeneration project for the growth of the Italian GDP

It was built in the place that hosted Expo Milano in 2015 and is destined to become a sort of European Silicon Valley, an innovation district with a strategic impact for all of Italy. The Milano Innovation District, or MIND for short, is one of the most ambitious and significant urban regeneration and sustainable development projects on an international level. It was brought to life by a company owned by the MEF, with the Lombardy region, the municipality of Milan supported by an Australian company specialized in the sector. The project involves a total investment of 4.8 billion, of which 3 billion from private individuals. The district already has 50 start-ups and almost 40 companies of international importance. Today, the district is frequented by 10 thousand people, including 700 researchers. By 2032, it will welcome a total of 60 thousand people, of which 20 thousand will be university students and over 2 thousand researchers, consolidating its role as a global research hub.

Until last year, when the investment recorded was equal to 1.7 billion euros (over 34% of the total expected), the average economic impact generated by MIND was 481 million euros per year: for the period 2025-2032 it is expected that this figure will grow to reach 3,138 million per year. The added value and strategic pillar of the project is environmental sustainability. By 2032, 100% of electricity consumption from renewable sources and the complete conversion to green mobility will be guaranteed. Furthermore, from 2025 to 2032 the project will contribute to increasing the Gross Domestic Product by 1.7% at a national level, equal to 755 million euros at a national level, and by 3% at a regional level, equal to 755 million euros.
