Highway tolls set to increase from August 1st

Highway toll increases in sight. An amendment by the rapporteurs to the Infrastructure decree aims to increase the annual fee paid to Anas by providing for "an increase of 1 thousandth of a euro per kilometer for toll classes A and B and 1 thousandth of a euro per kilometer for toll classes 3, 4 and 5" starting "from the first day of the month following the month in which the provision comes into force", or - considering the parliamentary process of the decree - from August 1st. The increase of one euro every thousand kilometers is generalized involving all toll classes that divide vehicles into categories: A and B essentially include cars, SUVs, campers and motorcycles, 3-4 and 5 instead include the axles of trucks and trailers.

The increase in tolls expected from August 1st "will allow Anas to definitively cover the need for resources that in recent years has structurally increased due to some events, in particular the redefinition of the network managed by Anas and the increase in costs for public street lighting and other costs for Anas activities, not covered by the current Program Contract". This is stated in the technical report to the amendment presented by the rapporteurs to the Infrastructure decree, which quantifies the company's needs at approximately 90 million euros per year, "corresponding to the additional revenue expected from the increase in the fee".

"The incremental requirement - explains the report - is consistent with the estimates developed during the drafting of the 2021-2025 Program Contract approved with CIPESS resolution 6/2024 of 21 March 2024 registered by the Court of Auditors on 28 June 2024 and with MIT-MEF decree 22 October 2024 registered by the Court of Auditors on 9 December 2024. Furthermore, starting from the 2025 financial year, it will be necessary to cover the needs deriving from the increase in the network managed by Anas following the upcoming transfer of the 'return roads' of the Veneto Region and the Piedmont Region".
