The first integrated hub for the production of liquefied biomethane and organic fertilizer in the Piana del Sele will be inaugurated on Tuesday 8 July 2025. The project, developed by Rienergy ESCo and managed by the companies Bioenergy Serre and Bioenergy Albanella, has allowed the construction of two innovative plants in the Municipalities of Serre and Albanella (SA).

The plants, powered by zootechnical waste and agro-industrial by-products, delivered by over 70 local farms, will each produce 499 Sm3/h of liquefied biomethane in addition to certified organic fertilizer, derived from the treatment of the digestate. The entire production cycle, in a circular economy perspective based on the principles of biorefinery and green chemistry, aims to reduce the environmental impact thanks to the connection of the most important economies of the Piana del Sele, namely the buffalo supply chain, the fruit and vegetable supply chain and the IV range, transforming the problem of one supply chain (disposal of buffalo waste) into the solution of the other (organic fertilizer for the land).

The project was made possible thanks to a total investment of over 60 million euros, made by the Infrastructure for Growth Fund – ESG managed by Azimut Libera Impresa SGR , assisted by a banking pool coordinated by Banco BPM, and the participation of Rienergy ESCo and Helios.

The objectives that were declared when the plants were launched were the achievement of “ zero waste ”, with the reduction of nitrates in vulnerable soils, the recovery of agricultural fertility and energy self-sufficiency.

The inauguration ceremony will be attended and participated by Vincenzo De Luca , President of the Campania Region; Andrea Cornetti , CEO of RE & Infrastrutture of Azimut Libera Impresa; representatives of the Pool of Financing Banks (BPM – Banca Campania Centro – Medio Credito Centrale – Banca Popolare di Puglia e Basilicata); the mayors of Albanella and Serre; representatives of the Italian Biogas Consortium; representatives of Confagricoltura; representatives of the University of Salerno (DIFARMA) and the Federico II University of Naples.
