Gilbert Varga, son of Tibor and that sound of Hungary

Who knows what conductor Gilbert Varga will think when he makes his debut this evening and on May 11 (at 8 pm and 4 pm) with the Milan Symphony Orchestra , the same one his father, violinist Tibor Varga, conducted way back in 1997. The concert is a great tribute to his homeland, Hungary , with a program that combines the virtuosic Concerto No. 1 for piano and orchestra in E flat major by Franz Liszt , with the talented Nelson Goerner on the keyboard, the Suite from The Wonderful Mandarin by Béla Bartók and Threnos, the piece that Sándor Veress wrote in memory of his teacher Bartók. The Hungarian sound is counterbalanced by the Italian sound of Giuseppe Martucci with the Nocturne No. 1, a jewel of fin de siècle romanticism made in Italy. An essential element of the concert is undoubtedly the Concerto No. 1 for piano and orchestra by Franz Liszt, which sees the return of pianist Nelson Goerner to the Auditorium in Largo Mahler. Born in 1969, Goerner showed from a young age that he was gifted with limitless talent.

Today at 6.30 pm there will be a conference in the Foyer of the Balcony, entitled “The wonderful musical Hungary.
