VAREDO (Monza e Brianza) If you are among the (few) Milanese who were unable to visit the eighteenth-century Villa Bagatti Valsecchi , in Varedo, during Design Week, with the installations by Alcova, then this is the right opportunity. Milano Scultura opens (from 9 to 11 May), both a fair and an exhibition project aimed at a wider audience, not just enthusiasts and collectors. There are no stands. There is a dialogue and a continuous reference between the works of contemporary art and the forms of the neoclassical spaces of the Villa. Thirty galleries, selected by the director Ilaria Centola and the curator Valerio Dehò, bring sculpture back to the centre, and works made with various materials, from marble to bronze and recycled materials. A "fresh" exhibition, there are many interesting artists, and the proposals are heterogeneous, in terms of variety and size of the works. They range from small-format works to environmental installations and public art. In short, sculpture expressed in many ways, "a living language", explained curator Valerio Dehò. Powerful works by Henri Beaufour, a French artist with a curious story. He chose to live in Tuscany, opening an atelier in Pietrasanta, to be closer to the material that best represents him, marble. Because even when he dedicates himself to painting he does not give up the gesture of "engraving" the material, the color, scratching it. Visitors will be able to admire a corpus of small and medium-sized works, among which a large hand and a cat, in marble, stand out. The Artista gallery in Monza presents three sculptors selected by curator Rosella Fusi: Grazia Gabbini with the work Pagine Sparse; Giuse Maggi with Specchio d'acqua; Marco Penati with Cucurbita which uses recycled materials and resin. For the Special Projects series, noteworthy works include Gigi Renga, with Fame, eggs in olive lime wood, and Cinzia Soverchia, Uovo bugiardo, made with iron and enamel. Mariangela Zabatino (gallery Finestreria), presents raku ceramics. Marc Kalinka's carousel work, Dondola, welcomes visitors. Free admission.
