ROS raids Piromalli clan, 26 arrests

Twenty-six people have been arrested in the "Res Tauro" operation against the Piromalli clan. The raid by Carabinieri from the ROS (Special Operations Squad) began at dawn this morning when, together with members of the Provincial Command, they executed a pre-trial detention order issued by the investigating judge at the request of the Reggio Calabria Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA), led by Prosecutor Giuseppe Borrelli. The suspects are charged with mafia-type association, extortion, money laundering, self-laundering, illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, obstruction of auctions, aiding and abetting, and fraudulent transfer of assets, aggravated by mafia methods.
Among those arrested is 80-year-old mafia boss Pino Piromalli, known as "Facciazza." The Gioia Tauro clan leader had been free since 2021, when he completed a 22-year sentence under the 41-bis regime. Known as "scarred," Pino Piromalli was arrested in 1999 after six years on the run. In the Reggio Calabria Anti-Mafia Directorate investigation that led to today's raid by the Carabinieri ROS (Special Operations Unit), Pino Piromalli is the primary suspect as the leader, promoter, and organizer.
During the investigation, coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Stefano Musolino, the Carabinieri reconstructed the clan's structure. Details of the raid will be presented at a press conference scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Provincial Command.
