Google Veo 3 Could Create the Video Games of the Future

A simple tweet about X has sent the world into a frenzy. One user innocently asked if Google will allow them to “ play with Veo 3 videos .” DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis’s response was a riddle: “ Wouldn’t that be amazing?

But it was Logan Kilpatrick, head of Google AI Studio, who sparked the speculation: he responded only with a series of silence emojis. Why did these two messages make so much noise? In the tech world, when the big guys don't deny but make cryptic jokes, it usually means that something big is about to happen.

now wouldn't that be something… https://t.co/WBeCMQye91

Veo 3: Is Google Making Video Games With AI?

When Google executives start communicating in emojis, something is cooking… Officially, Google has nothing to share. But the signs are clear: Veo 3 could be much more than just an AI video generator . It could be the key to building playable virtual worlds .

Today Veo 3 is “just” a very advanced video generator. It can generate videos that seem real because it understands how real-world physics works: how objects fall, how water moves, how smoke reacts. But it is not yet a “ world model .” The difference is that a video generator creates sequences that seem real. A world model, on the other hand, simulates a real world where you can interact. If you touch a ball, it rolls; if you light a fire, it burns; if you open a door, it swings open.

Why is Google going in this direction? In December they launched Genie 2 , which creates “infinite” game worlds where you can move and interact. The following month they formed a specialized team to simulate the physical world. They are building the bricks to go from “making videos” to “creating reality”.

The problem is not making beautiful videos, Veo 3 already knows how to do that very well, even with perfectly synchronized audio . The real challenge is another: creating worlds that respond instantly to our actions, in a coherent and controllable way. When you click, shoot, or jump, the world must react immediately and in the right way.

Here's where the winning combination could be born: Veo 3 takes care of the "cinematic" part (how everything looks), while Genie handles the interactivity (how everything reacts). Today Veo 3 is like a director who makes beautiful movies. For video games you need a director who improvises in real time while the user tells him what to do.

The gaming war that is about to begin?

If Google were to seriously move in this direction, it would find itself competing with Microsoft , Runway , Pika , and, sooner or later, OpenAI’s Sora . But with its resources and distribution muscle, it wouldn’t take long to crush the competition, and competitors would do well to keep their eyes peeled.
