Foggia holds the course: employment increases, companies are more solid and the labor market is expanding

In the first quarter of 2025, the entrepreneurial fabric of the province of Foggia remains stable. According to data processed by Unioncamere and InfoCamere, the balance between registrations and terminations stood at -123 units, with an overall variation rate of -0.18%, an improvement compared to the -0.21% recorded in the same period of 2024. Although the data shows a slight contraction, it reflects a greater resilience of the local entrepreneurial system, which resists global economic difficulties.
At a national level, the trend is equally positive: after a loss of -10,951 companies in the first quarter of 2024, in 2025 the balance dropped to -3,061 units, with a stock variation rate of -0.05%, the third least negative figure in the last ten years.
The real sign of strength comes from the labor market , where Capitanata stands out at a national level. Between 2023 and 2024, the province of Foggia recorded an increase in employment of +4.3% , almost three times the national average (+1.5%). This is an extraordinary result, which demonstrates the territory's ability to generate employment opportunities even in a complex economic situation.
Even more encouraging are the forecasts for the second quarter of 2025 : in the period April-June, the expected income of workers in the province increases by +12.3% compared to the same quarter of 2024, compared to a much more modest national growth (+1.9%). This is a figure that confirms not only the expansion of the local labor market, but also its seasonal dynamism , linked in particular to the start-up of activities in the agricultural, tourism and services sectors connected to the spring and summer seasons. This trend, although influenced by the cyclical nature, nevertheless highlights a performance that is clearly above the Italian average , the result of the vitality of some key sectors and the good stability of the territorial productive fabric.
The analysis of the different legal forms records a growth in joint-stock companies with an increase of +1.11% , a sign of an evolution towards more structured and solidity-oriented business models. In contrast, sole proprietorships and partnerships show a decline. The former , despite a loss of -273 units, have a less significant impact thanks to their large number. The latter , on the other hand, suffer a more worrying decline, with a negative growth rate of -0.69%, signaling the growing difficulties that these companies are facing in a challenging economic context.
A critical element, however, concerns exports : between 2023 and 2024, the province of Foggia recorded a decline of -13.8% , a figure significantly worse than the national average, which stands at -0.4% . This decline highlights a fragility of the local production system in foreign markets.
At the sectoral level, greater dynamism emerges in the services sector , which is showing greater resilience than traditional sectors such as trade and manufacturing , which continue to suffer from a less favorable economic environment. Despite the negative overall balance, the improvement compared to the first quarter of 2024 suggests greater resilience of the local business system, with positive signals coming mainly from joint-stock companies . The data confirms that, although difficulties persist, the business system of the province of Foggia is facing the period with greater stability and ability to adapt.
