Anyone seeking an alternative to Windows 11 could soon be in for a treat. Google is no stranger to offering laptops that aren't powered by Microsoft's operating system, with its more wallet-friendly Chromebook devices proving hugely popular since their launch 15 years ago. However, to help keep pace with the latest technology, a very smart update is now on its way, and it's called the Googlebook.
"Over 15 years ago, we introduced the Chromebook, a laptop built for a cloud-first world. Now, as we are moving from an operating system to an intelligence system, we see an opportunity to rethink laptops again," Google confirmed.
"We’re bringing together the best of Android, which comes with powerful apps on Google Play and a modern OS that’s designed for Intelligence, and ChromeOS, which comes with the world’s most popular browser. The result is Googlebook."
These upgraded portable PCs will not only let users perform all the usual tasks, such as email, surfing the web and making spreadsheets, but will also be powered by the latest Gemini Intelligence from the US firm.
"Googlebooks are the first laptops designed from the ground up for Gemini Intelligence, to deliver personal and proactive help when and where you need it," Google announced.
One of the new features on these Google Books includes a "Magic Pointer", which is basically a more intelligent cursor.
Google says users will be able wiggle their cursor and watch it "come alive" with Gemini, offering quick, contextual suggestions every time it's pointed at something on the screen.
For example, users can point the cursor at a date in an email to set up a meeting, or select two images to instantly visualise them together.
Other changes include being able to easily create custom widgets along with Gemini helping to keep your life in check by organising upcomig events and trips.
The Googlebook will also offer better integration with Android with users able to swicth between devices more easily. There's even the ability to view the phone's display right on the PC - that's a feature Apple already offers iPhone and MacBook users.
Finally, Google says it's new PCs will be built to last thanks to being made from more premium materials.
"Every Googlebook will be built with premium craftsmanship and materials, coming in a variety of shapes and sizes," Google confirmed.
Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo will be some of the first to Googlebooks later this year.
