The final Grand Slam tournament of the year, the US Open, officially begins on Sunday, August 24th and ends on September 7th. For 15 days, under the American heat and perhaps the flies, Alcaraz, Sinner, and Djokovic will attempt to conclude the Grand Slam year with a victory.

In this first round and this first evening, night, Benjamin Bonzi achieved the performance of the day against the Russian Medvedev, as at Wimbledon. Delayed by a hallucinatory scene with a photographer at the end of the 3rd set during the Frenchman's match point, the Frenchman's victory was finally recorded in five sets: 6-3, 7-5, 6-7 (5/7), 0-6, 6-4.

Frenchman Adrian Mannarino also qualified by easily eliminating the number 29 seed Tallon Griekspoor in three sets (7-5, 6-4, 6-0). Arthur Rinderknech also advanced by beating Roberto Carballés (ESP) 7-6 (7/2), 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Among the favorites, Novak Djokovic struggled a lot, but escaped the trap set in the first round by the young American Learner Tien and won 6-1, 7-6 (7/3), 6-2 and will play Zachary Svajda in the second round. It's easy for the two Americans Shelton and Fritz, who are highly anticipated in this US Open.

In the women's competition, Aryna Sabalenka got her title defense off to a good start, defeating Switzerland's Rebeka Masarova (108th place), a qualifier, 7-5, 6-1. Also notable was Jessica Pegula (4th place), who defeated Egypt's Mayar Sherif (102nd place) and Emma Raducanu 6-0, 6-4.
