Timeshares, arranged transfers and the Wild West: from Lyon to Botafogo, welcome to the galaxy of John Textor

Lyon, Molenbeek, Crystal Palace, Botafogo… Four years ago, John Textor entered the world of football with a highly ambitious timeshare project. For now, the Brazilian club, PSG's next opponent on Thursday night, represents his only sporting success.
By Cyril SimonCould it be otherwise? Whoever says football business and globalized football says John Textor. Known by the French public as the eccentric successor of Jean-Michel Aulas at the head of Olympique Lyonnais, the American leader will be present Thursday evening in California for PSG 's second match in the Club World Cup . In addition to OL, Textor owns three other teams in the world: Crystal Palace (Premier League), Molenbeek (Belgian D2) and therefore Botafogo, the Parisians' next opponent (3 a.m., Friday in France).
The Brazilian club undoubtedly represents Textor's greatest achievement since his timeshare debut in 2022, via the Eagle Group holding company. The man who made his fortune in sports streaming and events —he was responsible for the Tupac Shakur hologram at Coachella in 2012—can thank his South American franchise.
