Rugby, Federal 2 (French Championship round of 16 first leg): Bergerac takes a good option
With a nine-point lead before the return match on Sunday, June 1, Bergerac has already taken an option on Casteljaloux, but will still have to be wary in this round of 16 of the French championship.
Rémi Escudier struggled to hide his joy. But the co-coach still wanted to remain down to earth after his players' success this Sunday on the Casteljaloux pitch (25-34). "We must not rest because we know very well that in the previous round, Casteljaloux did the same thing: lose in the first leg, at home, against Soustons and they went on to secure qualification in the return leg. So we're expecting a big match next week," the forwards coach analyzed.
Things to reviewBecause USB really wants to go as far as possible and go one more round. Preparing for the quarterfinals isn't easy for everyone, and the Bergerac team must give themselves the means to dream. But to do that, they'll have to correct the small mistakes of this Sunday. "Casteljaloux is a very playful team that will give everything it takes," explains Rémi Escudier. "And what we were lacking this Sunday was inconsistency. We had lapses and each time we lost points," regrets the coach. Details that will have to be ironed out.
But the Bergerac players were relatively good at winning possession and managed to move the ball around. "We scored some great tries with a lot of movement," said the forwards coach.
There are still a lot of things to work on, and USB wants to see the positives, victory, this Sunday. From now on, Bergerac hopes to be worthy of the meeting and the crowd that should be there at Gaston-Simounet, especially since the men of the Escudier-Delmas duo are only 80 minutes away from a return to Fédérale 1, something that the staff and players prefer not to think about for the moment.
