Irish thoroughbred Camille Pissarro, European champion over 2,100 meters

In this race, which is intended to be the French equivalent of the English Epsom Derby, a dense field of eighteen young thoroughbreds, already seasoned in the effort despite their young age, set off on good ground on the demanding course of the Princes de Condé racecourse which ends with a 600-meter uphill straight.
Quickly in a good position with his number 1 in the starting stalls, Camille Pissarro constantly galloped behind Bowmark and Trinity College with the English Detain led by the Belgian Christophe Soumillon at his back.
Camille Pissarro changed gears in the final straight, maintaining his position along the rail to win in the last 50 meters.
"He had already performed well in the 2000 Guineas. I thank Christophe Soumillon who could have kept me in line," said Ryan Moore, who recorded his second victory in the race.
A second victory also for Aidan O'Brien, the trainer of the new ebony-coated Prince of Chantilly.
Second place went to the French thoroughbred Cualificar ridden by the British William Buick.
"We're thrilled to be on the podium. We were beaten by a very good horse. Ours doesn't disappoint us," commented Louise Benard, the French representative of the Godolphin stable, owner of Cualificar.
The English thoroughbred Detain, ridden by the Belgian Christophe Soumillon, finished in third place.
Thanks to his victory, the new Prince of Chantilly brought back to his entourage, including his owners, the Tabor-Smith-Magnier stable, the 857,100 euros promised to the winner out of the total allocation of 1.5 million paid by Qatar.
Racing fans will certainly see the new Prince of Chantilly again at the start of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, the world championship of galloping on the first Sunday of October. His career as a stallion at stud is already assured.
