Europa League: Tottenham wins its first title since 2008 and sinks Manchester United again

At the end of a rather unexciting final with huge stakes, Spurs got the better of the Red Devils this Wednesday in Bilbao (1-0), and saved their season with a third European title to their name.
Skip the ad Skip the adTo secure a huge triumph during one of the worst seasons in the club's history. That was the challenge for Spurs and the Red Devils , execrable and relegated this year in the Premier League, respectively 17th and 16th in the English championship. And those who emerged from the doldrums with a smile were the Tottenham players. This Wednesday in Bilbao, the Europa League final between the two dunces from across the Channel finally turned to the advantage of the Londoners ( 1-0 ), helped by the only goal scored in this final, an own goal from the disastrous Luke Shaw (42nd), apathetic, like his team.
Without any major flourishes, this all-English match will clearly not go down in history. With around fifteen fouls called in barely 40 minutes, this match resembled more of a stodgy football mush than a true European Cup final. Unfortunately trailing, United's Red Devils tried everything until the very end to equalize. Without success. Ruben Amorim's men came up short against the tough London defense, who were backed into their penalty area.
Having survived a miracle in the quarter-finals against Olympique Lyonnais, United were not touched by grace this time and are going to hell at the end of a dismal 2024-25 season, unworthy of a club of this stature. A fourth defeat in their last five European finals, the Mancunians sink even further into the abyss, they who today have nothing left of the Manchester United of yesteryear. For their part, Tottenham, who also had a disastrous season, won their third European Cup, the first in... 41 years.
