The 46-year-old boxer will return to the ring on July 19 to face Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title, the Filipino boxing legend announced Wednesday. "I'm back. On July 19, I return to the ring against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas," he wrote on his Instagram account.
The only boxer to have been world champion in eight different weight categories, Pacquiao (62 wins, 8 losses, 2 draws) ended his long career (26 years) in 2021, before launching himself in vain into the race for the presidency of his country.
He hasn't officially entered the ring since his points defeat to Cuban Yordenis Ugas on August 21, 2021, in Las Vegas for the WBA welterweight belt. Barrios, meanwhile, (29 wins, 18 by knockout, and 2 losses) retained his WBC belt last November against fellow American Abel Ramos.
