A tennis club that is growing in strength in Figanières

The Figanières-Callas Tennis Club was founded in 1996. Jocelyne Sutter became its president in 2007.
Since the start of the school year, Jean-Claude Fracassi has been the new coach. And he's pleased with the players' recent results: " The women's team, who finished their season tied for first in the group, are playing in Regional 3. They're moving up to the higher division, Regional 2. This encompasses the entire Paca league, from Menton to Marseille, including the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. The men were in Division 3, and they're moving up to Division 2. We have a lot of training groups spread out throughout the week."
The club currently has two courts that are no longer large enough to accommodate the club's 105 members and 20 players (licensed at another club). To address this problem, Jocelyne Sutter has ideas and numerous projects.
A 3rd court for organizing tournaments?" We are making great progress in terms of competition and leisure," the president emphasizes. "Our numbers have increased by 40%, which has earned us the congratulations of the departmental tennis committee; it's the biggest increase in the Var." The construction of a third court is planned "to accommodate players but also to organize tournaments." A file has been submitted to the National Sports Agency " and the club will finance 20% of the work. We will thus be able to organize multi-chance tournaments for young people and adults and, later, a departmental tournament for young people and adults. This will also allow us to create pickleball (1) , an integral practice of the French Tennis Federation. It's very fun and reaches a wider audience. If we manage to complete this first phase, my dream would be to recover at least one of the two old courts. "
The Figanières town hall has also set up a territorial educational project (PEDT). "We are considering participating. We already welcome children from the recreation center on Wednesdays for an hour. The idea behind this project is to bring together the goodwill of the village and create activities that allow children to participate in sports or discovery days, among other things. All associations are welcome; everyone can participate at their own level ."
1. Pickleball is an easy-to-access racquet sport that emphasizes team spirit. It can be played competitively or as a family sport, mixed-sex or intergenerational. Young people can also play with adults.
