A spectacular regatta organized this Thursday in Antibes

Tomorrow, the Antibes Regatta Society is offering a popular event: a delightful little spring regatta, the Vire Vite. The start will be at 11 a.m. under the city walls, with nearly fifty boats expected.
The Vire Vite consists of a three-lap circuit between Antibes and its cape, to be completed with a crew reduced to two sailors. The duos will have to perform numerous maneuvers throughout the course. This regatta favors smaller boats that are easier to steer against larger sailboats, which usually have a large crew. "Because of the many complicated, technical maneuvers, the man counts a lot during these double-handed regattas," explains Alain Le Bouedec, vice president of the SRA.
"A fun first" on SundayOn Sunday, May 4, the organization is also offering competitors the chance to compete on equal terms in a challenge on light catamarans. The races will take place from 11 a.m. at the Ponteil base in front of the Salis beach. In this one-design framework, size will no longer be an excuse (there will be a handicap system) as in all regattas, the overall ranking will reward the crew that has the best seamanship regardless of the type of sailboat. "Bringing in the light sailing people who raced on Thursday for a challenge, with a mixed ranking in the end. It's fun and it's a first. Young people are obviously invited on the heavy boats for this event," says the vice-president.
Finally, on Wednesday, May 7th, the traditional Croisière Bleue, the 59th edition, will begin. The 120 boats will set sail off La Gravette at 7 p.m., heading for Calvi in Corsica. After a festive break, the competitors will set sail again, returning on Sunday, May 10th, still off the coast of La Gravette.
