United Kingdom: Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron received at Windsor Castle during a state visit from July 8 to 10
The Élysée Palace announced on Tuesday, May 13, that the President of the Republic and the First Lady will be on an official visit across the Channel from July 8 to 10.

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte will pay a state visit to the United Kingdom from July 8 to 10, at the invitation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who they received in France two years earlier , the Élysée Palace announced on Tuesday, May 13.

"During this state visit, the President of the Republic will co-chair, with Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the 37th Franco-British Summit in the presence of the relevant ministers from our two countries," the presidency said in a statement.

The Buckingham Palace statement states that the French presidential couple will be received at Windsor Castle. "France's last state visit to the United Kingdom was in March 2008," it also notes, referring to Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife's official visit to Queen Elizabeth II, who was also in Windsor.

Received with great pomp at Versailles in September 2023, King Charles III urged the French and British to "reinvigorate their friendship," which had been tarnished by Brexit. That same year, Emmanuel Macron and Rishi Sunak, then head of the British government, chaired the first Franco-British summit in five years.

Relations have since warmed with the arrival of Labour's Keir Starmer in Downing Street in July 2024. On Saturday, the two leaders, accompanied by their German and Polish counterparts, issued an ultimatum to Vladimir Putin from Kyiv demanding an unconditional one-month ceasefire .

Britain is a key ally of France in supporting Ukraine, which was invaded by Russia in February 2022.
