The town of La Seyne will soon become the owner of land in Saint-Elme, with a parking lot planned.

A few days before the reservation to which local elected officials are subject in the run-up to the municipal elections next March, the mayor of La Seyne gave an update on the projects (our previous editions). Among them, he announced that the city would soon acquire land in Saint-Elme, on the lower part of the hill located behind the nautical base, on the border with Saint-Mandrier, where the other slope is located. "These plots belong to the Navy and the Conservatoire du Littoral, who want to get rid of them," explained Joseph Minniti. "And they offered to buy them back from us. Which we will do, with the help of the Metropolis."

1.1 hectares partly wooded

On this wooded land of more than one hectare with some abandoned buildings, 8,000m² will therefore become the property of the City for 660,000 euros, the rest (nearly 3,000m²) will be acquired by the Toulon Provence Méditerranée Metropolis, for 240,000 euros.

What for? "The goal is, above all, to preserve this place from any real estate project," confides the elected official. It's up to the next municipality to find a use for it. The mayor is already happy to suggest some ideas: "It might be possible to renovate the buildings, to make them a seaside center, why not... Or an extension of the activities of the nautical center."

As things stand, the TPM section should be converted into "a 40 or 50-space car park" , which would be a great advantage for local residents and users of this small port, particularly in summer. "And there is no question of cutting down the trees there."

This file, which has never been publicly discussed before, was opened at the end of 2024, Mr. Minniti added. "We discussed with the Metropolis and the State services... and also negotiated. The City also obtained a significant reduction in the original price, which was, for its part, 865,000 euros."

This acquisition must be the subject of deliberation at the next municipal council meeting.
