The mayor of La Seyne declared ineligible: her book on the behind-the-scenes story of the affair

The epilogue to her own book. This is what Nathalie Bicais should be working on in the coming days, as the Toulon Criminal Court sentenced her this Friday morning to an eighteen-month suspended prison sentence, a €20,000 fine, and five years of ineligibility with provisional execution (in other words, with immediate effect, as with Hubert Falco and Marine Le Pen) for two illegal takings of interest.

For several months, the mayor of La Seyne had decided to write down her story. The starting point was her police custody in La Garde , which she experienced as a shock in January 2024.

In it, she recounts the treatment she received, her perspective on the affair, and the betrayals of several former running mates, all while changing their names. Even though her former deputy, Jean-Pierre Colin, who became her rival, and others should recognize themselves in it.

"In the spirit of American Romans"

"It's quite modern, with short sentences. In the spirit of American novels ," said one of the few close friends who read almost the entire book in advance. "It's not bad."

Nathalie Bicais had planned to release her book in bookstores in an initial version, in which she only discussed her time in police custody, last November or December. Four months before her trial. But it never materialized.

At the time, her lawyer strongly advised her not to speak out in this way before her court appearance. She was therefore able to fill in the blanks as events unfolded. Will she wait until the appeal to make it public?
