Less well-known than its imposing neighbor, Émile-Huchet, the TotalEnergies power plant in Saint-Avold produces the same amount of electricity, but uses natural gas and steam and can power a population of one million people. Here's some explanation.

Located on the Route de Haslach, in the community zone of Europort Saint-Avold, the TotalEnergies site consists of two units built in 2010 for the needs of the Émile-Huchet power plant. Fueled by gas (then in full swing), units 7 and 8 were acquired by TotalEnergies in 2020 and were renamed Saint-Avold 7 and 8. These are two identical buildings, each supplying 435 MW, or 870 MW in total, as much or more than the last coal-fired unit at Émile-Huchet (owned by GazelEnergie), which produces 600 MW. If there is one thing the two electricity production sites have in common, it is that they are able to respond quickly to the demand of RTE (French electricity transmission network) .
