Nicolas Sarkozy's electronic monitoring device was removed this Thursday. The former President of the Republic had been wearing the monitoring device since February, following his final conviction in the wiretapping case.

The electronic bracelet attached to Nicolas Sarkozy's ankle has been removed, RMC learned from the Paris prosecutor's office, confirming a report from AFP. "By judgment of May 12, 2025, Nicolas Sarkozy was granted conditional release.

"By application dated April 16, 2025, he requested conditional release. As he has been 70 years old since January 28, 2025, his application before serving half of his sentence is admissible," the Paris prosecutor's office assured.

The former President of the Republic has been wearing an ankle monitor with schedules prohibiting him from going out between certain hours since February 7th and his conviction in the wiretapping affair .

The former head of state must request prior authorization from the sentencing judge for any trip of more than 15 days or abroad.

Nicolas Sarkozy had been finally sentenced by the Court of Cassation to one year in prison and two years suspended for corruption and influence peddling .

Being 70 years old, he was able to apply for parole before halfway through his sentence, which led to the removal of his bracelet after just over three months.
