Lyon: 40 of the 60 new cameras installed by December 2025

Last June, the City of Lyon announced the deployment of 60 new fixed cameras by the end of the mandate. Two-thirds of these new cameras will be installed by the end of 2025 in several neighborhoods of the city.
This is one of Grégory Doucet's promises that has generated the most reaction in recent months. Last June, during the last municipal council meeting of the City of Lyon, a resolution was passed for the installation of 60 video surveillance cameras by 2026. A few weeks after this vote, we know a little more about the deployment of this new fleet of cameras.

Of the 60 new fixed cameras, which will be added to the 571 cameras already present throughout Lyon, two-thirds will be installed by the end of 2025. A " rapid deployment " according to the City which has already begun since June. Several cameras have thus been installed, or are in the process of being installed, in certain districts of Lyon: Part-Dieu/Béaudier, Bellecour and the river stops.
These first cameras were installed primarily using existing connection cables, for faster deployment. " In neighborhoods where installation has to start from scratch, it will take a little longer, " the municipality told us.
The second phase of installation of the last 20 cameras will take place at the beginning of 2026. " The precise schedule will be established as soon as the new contract is awarded, which will take effect on January 1, 2026, " specifies the City, which does not wish to communicate in detail on the locations of the installation of these last cameras. In the deliberation voted on last June, the municipality explained that it wanted to deploy these cameras " in sectors undergoing change " but also " around certain schools, parks, community and religious places, and tourist sites. "
In total, by the end of the current term of the Green mayor's office in March 2026, 631 fixed cameras and 30 mobile cameras should be in operation in Lyon. The latter have all been acquired since 2020. This means a total of 90 cameras have been installed since Grégory Doucet and his team took office (30 mobile and 60 fixed). The budget allocated to the expansion of the fixed camera fleet, announced last June, is €962,000, to which must be added €738,000 for annual maintenance and the renewal of one-fifth of the fleet each year.
