Lyon 2 Affair: Environmentalists Deplore the Regional Executive's "Variable Geometry Indignation"

Environmentalists in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region believe that the government, in the Lyon 2 University affair, has adopted the " unhealthy obsessions of the extreme right ."
In a press release on Tuesday, April 30, the environmental group in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region returned to the affair that has been rocking Lyon 2 University for almost a month, following the intrusion on April 1 of a group of hooded people during a class given by Fabrice Balanche.
The elected officials first expressed their support to the university president, Isabelle Von Bueltzingsloewen, who was threatened following her comments in the Tribune de Lyon , stating that she was "not surprised " by the interruption of the geography lecturer's course, particularly because of her " positions on Gaza ."
As a reminder, the Lyon prosecutor's office explained on Monday, April 21, that it had opened an investigation into the charges of " death threats against a person responsible for a public service mission and online harassment " following these threats.

On Thursday, April 17, the LR president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Fabrice Pannekoucke, and his predecessor, who became a special advisor, Laurent Wauquiez, asked the Minister of Higher Education for an inspection mission on " worrying excesses " within Lyon 2 .
" A political attack, based not on facts but on an ideological interpretation of university realities ," the environmentalists added on Tuesday, considering it " unacceptable that a regional elected official or any other external authority should claim to interfere in the internal functioning of a university establishment ."
And added: " We regret the indignation with variable geometry shown by the regional executive towards the world of education ." " The university is suffering the double assault of Islamism and the extreme left ," said the two LR elected officials in their press release.
" Universities and education as a whole must not be exploited by politicians who, for electoral purposes, adopt the unhealthy obsessions of the extreme right ," the environmentalists finally criticize.
