LIVE. Bayrou's Resignation: What Next? Follow This New Political Day

The President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet , said on Tuesday that she was ready to go to Matignon to implement a possible "coalition pact" , promising if this were the case to govern without making use of Article 49.3 and to immediately request a vote of confidence.
"I am not a candidate" for Matignon, "on the other hand I am available to work in the interests of my country," the Renaissance MP from Yvelines said on RTL. "If by chance I had to take on this mission, obviously I would not balk at it," she also declared.
Yaël Braun-Pivet, who will be receiving the presidents of the various political groups in the Assembly at 9:30 a.m., is calling for the conclusion of an "action programme until 2027" between those who wish to do so.
Socialist Party First Secretary Olivier Faure, who wants Emmanuel Macron to appoint a left-wing prime minister, had still not been contacted by the head of state as of Tuesday morning. "I was sleeping soundly during the night, so I didn't hear the phone ring," he said on France Inter.
Asked about the PS's attitude if a Macronist prime minister like Sébastien Lecornu or Catherine Vautrin were appointed, Olivier Faure refused to comment. "I'm not going to get into a narrative that would be about what I would do with this or that person. For the moment, we must claim power and make sure that this possibility exists," he argued, while the Socialist group, with its 66 deputies, occupies a pivotal role in the National Assembly.
"Today we want change. To ensure that the French people who are expressing their exasperation can finally find a political outlet through a change which cannot be, in my view, a continuation of what we have known for a long time," he argued.
François Bayrou, the first head of government of the Fifth Republic to be ousted in a confidence vote, will submit his resignation to Emmanuel Macron this Tuesday, September 9, according to one of his close associates.
The President of the Republic has declared that he has "taken note" of this. He will appoint his successor "in the next few days." According to some Elysée strategists, this time, the head of state is not expected to engage in "formal consultations" before making a decision.
A year ago, the head of state received the political parties in turn before appointing Michel Barnier , then organized a round table of several party leaders before choosing François Bayrou in December.
François Bayrou failed to gain the confidence of MPs on Monday, leading to the fall of his government. While the Prime Minister did have the merit of addressing the extent of the debt, he failed to initiate real negotiations between the parties. The latter would be well advised to demonstrate responsibility, as the French increasingly doubt their political representatives.
On Monday, September 8, MPs overthrew François Bayrou, refusing him confidence by a clear majority in a vote he had requested himself on the state of public finances.
As expected two weeks ago, 364 MPs from opposition groups ranging from the National Rally to the French Liberal Party (LFI) voted against the vote of confidence in the Prime Minister, while 194 MPs from the government coalition voted in favour.
Welcome to this live broadcast devoted to the French political situation this Tuesday, September 9, the day after the vote of confidence requested by François Bayrou in the National Assembly.
