From Corsica, the Kanak independence movement protests against the Bougival agreements

Under the ramparts of the Corte citadel, the Kanak delegation is a long-time regular at the International Days. "We have forged important links with Corsica and they have become even stronger since 2017," summarizes Dimitri Qenegei, an FLNKS activist, who describes himself as one of the "seven political prisoners" placed in pre-trial detention after the riots that occurred in May 2024 in New Caledonia. While he was recently released, he is prohibited, because of his judicial supervision, from meeting in particular the leader of his party, Christian Tein, who is absent from Corte, but who held a conference organized by the Nazione independence party in Bastia on Thursday, July 29.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Tein expressed his opposition to the agreements signed on July 12 in Bougival (Yvelines) between the loyalists and the independence supporters under the patronage of the government. "Individually, I am against this agreement because it does not meet our expectations (...), I think we are too far from the path already taken ," he told AFP. " The fundamentals of the Kanak people's struggle are not reflected in it."
