Dijon. 3rd Tram Line Project: Public Consultation Completed, What Are the Next Steps?

On August 1st , the public consultation on the third tramway line project ended. Nearly 600 contributions were submitted on the dedicated digital platform. Now, what's next? An update on the next steps of this project led by Dijon Métropole.
Chenôve Portes du Sud - Dijon Cap Nord, via Place Wilson: this is the route chosen by Dijon Métropole for its third tramway line, among the eleven scenarios studied. A project estimated at €200 million, the completion of which is planned for 2030.
At the end of March, the territory's elected officials had approved the launch of a public consultation to inform all residents and stakeholders about the planned developments, but also to gather their observations and requests. This took place from June 2 to August 1 , through public meetings , thematic workshops, and urban walks. According to Dijon Métropole, more than 1,300 people participated in these exchanges.
On the paper registers and the digital platform dedicated to this consultation, https://concertationt3.dijon-metropole.fr , 583 various expressions were recorded, whether questions (181), individual contributions (368) or submitted by structures such as associations, companies, public and private organizations (33).
All comments (positive and negative), questions, and other suggestions are available online. They must be read by the project team and analyzed to produce the consultation report, which will be presented in the fall. It must "inform the public decision-maker at a stage where the project is still being developed and inform future technical studies." The Dijon Métropole council will therefore be asked to approve this report and present the measures it deems necessary to implement. It will also consider the terms for continuing the project, taking into account the comments received from the public.
In the second quarter of 2026—if the executive elected in the upcoming municipal elections does not call the project into question—the project manager will be chosen and in-depth studies will be carried out to obtain a more precise costing of the project, minimize technical risks, and determine the work schedule. In early 2027, a public inquiry will be opened for everyone to express their views. Then, in mid-2028, a declaration of public utility for the project should allow work to begin. Still according to the provisional schedule established by the community, the commissioning of this T3 could take place at the start of the 2030 school year.
