France doesn't work enough. Lazy as a bunch, the French have lost their taste for effort, and are dragging down the economy. Worse still, this laziness is contagious, and is even infecting the foreign teams in the Tour de France, whose absenteeism rate at work is questionable. Affected by a minor cold without consequences, many riders have called in sick, like Steff Cras, the Belgian leader of TotalEnergies, who left the Tour roads in tears on the first slopes of the Col du Tourmalet. Or one of his compatriots, Remco Evenepoel , white jersey and third in the general classification, who, in turn, threw in the towel on the 14th day. Even the favorites, like Tadej Pogacar, are clearly showing reluctance when one would expect them to be more enthusiastic about their work.
