Many tourists have fallen ill after going to this popular European island. What are the symptoms?

Every year, the French eagerly await the summer holidays. Many of them take advantage of this time to travel. Among the most popular destinations: Spain, particularly Mallorca. This Balearic island in the Mediterranean attracts many travelers in search of sun, white sand beaches, turquoise seas, and often a very lively nightlife, especially in Magaluf. Every year, thousands of young tourists go there to party.
But this summer, some travelers who went to Magaluf reported falling ill. This phenomenon even has a name: "Magaflu": a contraction of Magaluf and " flu ," which means flu in English. Those affected suffered from the very unpleasant symptoms of the flu: sore throat, cough, cold, fatigue, and more.
Currently, no rare virus appears to be causing these symptoms. It could simply be the flu. Those affected may also have become ill after overindulging in excess, particularly excessive alcohol consumption.
Finally, another possible explanation is the well-known phenomenon of decompression. At the beginning of a vacation (regardless of the destination), many people get sick. This is thought to be due to the fact that after several months of stress and lack of rest, the body may tend to "give up" and be more vulnerable to viruses.

While on vacation, it's possible to limit your risk of getting sick. First, to avoid sunstroke (and sunburn), it's essential to avoid overexposure to the sun, especially during the hottest hours. Second, even though vacation is a time to enjoy yourself, it's best to pay attention to your lifestyle, avoiding excesses and getting enough sleep.
Obviously, especially abroad, you have to be wary of food, especially raw food, and water (not always drinkable) which can cause poisoning (or the famous tourista ). Finally, you should avoid using air conditioning that is too cold or that is aimed directly at your face. This dries the air and can cause symptoms, particularly respiratory symptoms, in certain sensitive people. And if, despite all the precautions, you get sick, it's better to be prepared and pack some basic medications!
