The fall is painful. Embattled Japanese carmaker Nissan announced on Tuesday, May 13, that it had suffered a colossal annual net loss of 671 billion yen (4.1 billion euros) in its 2024-2025 fiscal year, largely due to the costs of a painful restructuring.
Nissan also unveiled plans to close seven of its 17 manufacturing plants by 2027 and increase the job cuts outlined in its recovery plan to 20,000, following press reports suggesting a figure of 19,000. The company did not release a forecast for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, which is marked by significant uncertainty over US tariffs.
