Liquidation of the Jennyfer brand: more than 600 jobs threatened

The ready-to-wear brand Jennyfer is in receivership, and several takeover bids have been filed with the commercial court. However, none of them offer to retain all of the brand's employees.
Jennyfer is hanging by a thread, waiting for a buyer. Thirteen offers have just been submitted, but in all cases, dozens of stores are expected to close . None of the potential buyers plan to keep the brand's 999 employees. The brand has already had to deal with two redundancy plans and a receivership. At a Jennyfer store in Metz, sales have been declining for a year and a half. For Catherine Tormen, store manager, who has worked at Jennyfer for 23 years, it's a shock. " I'm having a hard time coming to terms with it. 23 years of ready-to-wear is a lifetime. I think I'll have a lot of trouble turning the page ," she admits.
The reasons for this low-cost retailer's difficulties: declining purchasing power and competition from Chinese platforms. There are only two weeks left for other candidates to submit their offers. For the moment, none of them are viable, according to the lawyer representing the employees. If no takeover bid is accepted, Jennyfer will cease all operations on May 28.
