Jura. Figures of our communities: retired teacher, this Jura native makes wood his new passion

First a teacher and then a middle school principal, Christophe Perrod chose woodworking and created his micro-business Les Ateliers de Montbrillant in 2024.
Born in 1966 in Lons-le-Saunier, Christophe Perrod has lived in the Haut Jura region since 1990. Holder of a degree to become a primary school teacher, he spent some twenty-five years in the Priority Education Network (REP) schools "by choice", and directed two of them.
After replacing a head teacher in a middle school in Lons, he took the management staff exam and passed in 2012.
Having become deputy principal at Rosset College for a new replacement, in the midst of preparations for the merger of the two colleges at the Pré Saint-Sauveur school complex, the former "teacher" will join the Reims Academy. He held a deputy position for three years, before joining Oyonnax and Givors , this town in the Rhône region where he served as principal for five years, before retiring in 2023.
"My passion for wood comes from my ancestors. My father and I always used wood for heating," explains the former teacher, father of three, and grandfather of three. "When I bought my house in Montbrillant, a former sawmill, I bought a woodworking machine for curling, parquet floors, and some furniture. Self-taught, I started tinkering in my workshop and continue to help family and friends. I make various objects, cutting boards, birdhouses, driftwood lamps, etc." He has already made toys for them from raw or stained wood.
One thing led to another, or rather, from scissors to plane, the amateur carpenter decided to create his micro-business, which he named Les Ateliers de Montbrillant. He operates "on demand and on demand" and keeps time for his hobbies and family. He also offers van conversions with a removable box.
The former civil servant admits that he "wanted to discover the world of craftsmanship, to create without constraints. My training is modern, I watch tutorials, and I meet great people, I like to satisfy the customer. Later, I would like to pass on know-how, it's a desire to enable people who don't dare to make an object. For example, I helped a family build a chicken coop, with their children," confides Christophe Perrod, who still has one foot in teaching. Since June, he has been the Departmental Delegate of National Education (DDEN).
