Basque Country: Opposition calls for moratorium on Cambo's real estate projects

Opposition elected officials in Cambo-les-Bains will present a motion to the Municipal Council this Wednesday, August 20, calling for a moratorium on the launch of real estate projects.
The Cambo-les-Bains Municipal Council is meeting this Wednesday evening with 22 items on the agenda. Among them is the review of a motion called for by a third of municipal officials to "suspend the start of the Marienia and Usimendia real estate projects until the end of the March 2026 municipal elections." For Peio Etchelecu, the aim is to "aim for calm during this period" on issues that continue to cause tension and division among a large portion of the municipality's residents.
The motion explicitly calls for a moratorium on issues "which continue to be the subject of legal proceedings."
There's no question of deciding on the substance of the matter on the eve of what promises to be a lively election campaign. Instead, there's the idea of taking a break and letting the future municipal majority decide on this matter after the elections. "It's urgent to wait," the motion states, "so that the Camboars can calmly express their views on the merits, or otherwise, of these projects."
