Multiple deliberate fires in Dordogne
Seven fires broke out in the town of Saint-Sulpice-de-Roumagnac this Friday afternoon. Six of them were reportedly caused by deliberate fires.
On the afternoon of Friday, August 1st, in the commune of Saint-Sulpice-de-Roumagnac, in the Ribéracois region, seven fires broke out along the D43, 300 meters apart. Initially, residents of nine affected houses fought with water jets, watering cans, and shovels. After ten minutes, the first Ribérac fire brigade vehicle arrived on the scene. In total, 20 fire engines and 45 firefighters from Saint-Aulaye, Nontron, Saint-Astier, Mussidan, and Montpon-Ménestérol were dispatched to the scene.
One fire started near the town's school, and another near the town hall. In total, according to firefighters, two to three hectares of scrubland, meadows, and forests burned. The fires are now all contained. The D45 was partially closed by Ribérac gendarmes during the intervention. No buildings were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
According to the fire brigade officer on site, six of the seven fires were started deliberately.
