Furniture, decor, bargains: Ikea's giant garage sale is here

Furniture, decor, bargains: yay, Ikea's giant garage sale is back! The Swedish brand's eco-friendly and economical operation is back, returning this year to more than twenty of the brand's stores across France.

The solidarity garage sale: what’s that?

Every Saturday in June, Ikea organizes charity yard sales where individuals and families can sell secondhand items, whether or not they bear the blue and yellow label. To participate, simply reserve a stand (2.5 meters) for 10 euros, the proceeds of which will be donated to a local charity. It's a simple and friendly way to sort through things, give new life to forgotten objects, and support charitable causes. The event isn't new: it first appeared in Dijon in 2012.

A gesture for the planet and the wallet

These garage sales are part of an eco-responsible approach, aiming to encourage reuse and limit waste. Giving a second life to a piece of furniture or an everyday accessory means reducing its ecological footprint and lightening its bill. This is a logic that the brand applies all year round with its “ Second Life ” spaces, present in its stores. These spaces facilitate the sale and purchase of second-hand furniture, with prices that can be reduced by 60%. Enough to find real bargains! In 2024, nearly 2.7 million items changed hands via this system, according to data relayed by RMC .

Ikea, a pioneer of second-hand goods?

In a sector where novelty often prevails, Ikea is a pioneer. Indeed, the Swedish brand is multiplying initiatives to promote more sustainable consumption. In addition to selling second-hand furniture, it offers repair and customization workshops, encouraging everyone to extend the life of their objects rather than throwing them away. This policy is part of Ikea's objective to transform its model towards greater circularity. “ We have big ambitions for 2030. We are committed to doing our part in the fight against climate change, unsustainable consumption, and inequality. Our three areas of action are: a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle; climate, nature, and circularity; and justice and equity ,” the brand promises on its website.

A national tour in June

The charity flea markets will take place on June 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2025 in many cities , including Paris (with stores in Plaisir, Évry, Nord, Villiers-sur-Marne and Italie 2), Lille, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Rennes, Brest, Toulouse, Reims, Caen, Toulon and Dijon, the birthplace of the initiative. Each event will be an opportunity to support a local association, thus strengthening the links between Ikea and the inhabitants of each area. A great way to combine good deals, conviviality and solidarity! So, ready to rummage?
