As of July 31, 23 people have already been killed on the roads of Dordogne in 2025

Since the beginning of the year, the number of road accidents has increased significantly in the Dordogne, with 114 injuries and 153 injuries. Twenty-three people had already lost their lives as of July 31, according to the prefecture.
The year 2025 has been a dark one for the moment on the roads of the Dordogne. From January 1st to July 31st, 114 bodily injury accidents occurred, an increase of 11% compared to July 31st, 2024, for 153 injuries (+11%), announced the Dordogne prefecture. In total, 23 people (+15%) were killed in 20 fatal accidents (+6%), including 17 in cars, two on motorcycles, and four pedestrians.
Speed and alcohol, the main causesThe main causes identified for these accidents were speed (31 accidents), alcohol (29 accidents) and inattention (17 accidents). It should be noted that 88 of the accidents took place outside built-up areas, including 19 fatalities, compared to 26 accidents, including four fatalities, in cities. Regarding the distribution of deaths, ten were aged 65 or over, five between 50 and 64, four between 35 and 49, three between 25 and 34 and one newborn also lost their life.
This doesn't mean that law enforcement has let down its vigilance, with 972 administrative driving license suspensions, an increase of 14.08%. But also, prevention days are being organized throughout the department, including one at the Manoire rest area on Saturday, August 2.
