Sleeping in a work of art is possible in Nantes

As every year, Le Voyage à Nantes fills the French city of Nantes with art. This event has been held for over 12 years and can be enjoyed until August 31st. This year's theme is L'Étrangeté (The Strange), and it features installations that unsettle, change scale, and raise questions . From fantastical creatures on the facade to sound gardens or sculptures that seem to emerge from another dimension.
To make sure you don't miss anything, just follow the famous green line that runs through part of the city , showcasing everything from the city's most iconic areas to the art installations that have been accumulating over so many editions.
Even in bedBut art doesn't just stay on the streets. The festival's Chambres d'Artistes project takes it a step further: sleeping inside a work of art . Three unique pieces—Micr'Home, Amours, and Villa Cheminée—function as temporary accommodations where the artistic experience continues after the lights go out and the city falls silent. Because in Nantes, this summer, art also dreams.
Micr'HomeSleeping suspended between two buildings in the heart of Nantes is no longer a fantasy. This capsule, elevated five meters above the ground, is a micro-architecture designed by Myrtille Drouet that offers an unusual experience: 26 m² of minimalist design where nothing is missing, from the kitchen to the bathroom, including enormous windows with city views. Access is via a staircase, and, like the most extravagant dreams, luggage is brought up by a pulley. A stay somewhere between the urban and the poetic, for those seeking a different perspective.
Loves (Le D'Ô peniche)
On the banks of the Erdre River, this former 1930s boat has been transformed into a habitable work of art by artist Karina Bisch. Today, with its exterior decorated in bright geometric colors and a bright interior, it serves as a floating gallery where you can spend the night. The rooms offer direct views of the water, and the swaying of the river accompanies your rest. Art, nature, and the city blend in one of Nantes' most original rooms.
Villa Cheminée
Facing the Cordemais power plant , Tatzu Nishi imagined this surreal yet enchanting artistic intervention: a 15-meter-high industrial chimney crowned by a small house with a garden, built in the image of those found in the suburbs. Access is via a metal staircase, and at the top awaits a small shelter with a kitchen, bathroom, bed, and an unusual terrace overlooking the Loire estuary. A night here is like sleeping inside an art installation, with the industrial skyline transformed into a canvas.
With the agenda in handThese special accommodations can be booked directly through the official Le Voyage à Nantes website or at the city's tourist office. However, it's best not to leave it to the last minute, as places are very limited and they tend to sell out quickly. Prices vary depending on the chosen property, but to give you an idea, the Micr'Home is between €95 and €120 per night, the Peniche Amours starts at €135, and the Villa Cheminée costs between €99 and €119, including breakfast.
Sleeping in a work of art is just one of the many ways Nantes surprises. This vibrant city on the banks of the Loire continues to reinvent itself every summer with offerings that blend creativity, heritage, and unique experiences.
