Without a doubt, one country has taken a measure that has caused concern among seniors. A well-known Latin American country will not allow seniors to renew their driver's licenses . What are the reasons behind this issue?
In Peru, this measure seeks to increase road safety . It is based on the premise that individual abilities, such as reflexes and concentration, decline with age.
This decrease could negatively impact driving, even posing a danger to pedestrians on the roads.

According to what was reported by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) through its website, “ the maximum age to hold a professional category driver's license is eighty (80) years,” the authorities of said territory specified. “From the age of seventy (70) the obtaining, recategorization and revalidation of professional class A driver's licenses, after a favorable medical and psychological evaluation by an ECSAL, will be granted for periods shorter than those established in article 18 of this Regulation,” they added.

Considering the requirements set forth by the aforementioned organization, the process that those over 70 must undergo to renew their driver's license must be accompanied by a medical evaluation that can verify their physical and mental health.
Without this documentation, those interested will be unable to continue driving. It should be noted that the Ministry of Transport and Transportation (MTC) allows renewals up to the age of 81. While it may seem like a demanding process, its objective is to preserve and protect the lives of other citizens who move around daily within the context of a precedent set in this region of the planet.
