Five beaches on the Spanish coast to enjoy with your dog

Although slowly, the Spanish coast is beginning to open up to pets, and every year more locations are added to the list of pet-friendly beaches—approximately one hundred—for our four-legged friends. Pets are a member of the family, so it's only natural that they should be able to go wherever their owners go. The good news is that more and more accommodations, leisure facilities, and restaurants are embracing the pet-friendly label, thus meeting the needs of a growing number of travelers who don't want to leave their furry companions at home. These are some of the beaches where pets are welcome , five sandy beaches to keep in mind this summer.
Huelva's Atlantic coast offers several options for those who want to take their dogs—up to eight—and one of the most famous is Espigón Beach, a 2.5-kilometer-long, 40-meter-wide strip of golden sand that emerged following the construction of the Juan Carlos I Dike, which facilitated access to the Huelva estuary. Its clean, crystal-clear waters and gentle waves are perfect for a relaxing day out.

Wild, with no buildings nearby – which is quite an achievement –, quiet and pet-friendly!… that's Rubina beach , a 1,800-metre-long and 70-metre-wide sandy beach surrounded by dunes, back dunes and lagoon systems typical of marshland areas. It is also the only beach in Castelló d'Empúries where dogs and kitesurfing are allowed.

Since 2025, Los Molinucos Beach has been added to Cantabria's pet-friendly options, becoming one of the few urban beaches where dogs are allowed. Located opposite Mataleñas Park, it can be reached via a pleasant walk along the Cabo Mayor Pedestrian Path or through the park itself.
This is a small, quiet cove—not usually very crowded, even in summer—about 25 meters long and 5 meters wide, surrounded by a beautiful natural setting with turquoise waters, a gentle slope for access, and barely any waves. There are no services available, so if you're here for the day, you'll need to bring everything you need.

Known as the longest sandy beach in the Principality of Asturias thanks to its 2,800 meters, El Sablón or Playón de Bayas , located in Castrillón, is an ideal option for visiting with pets. However, they must be kept in the designated areas at the western end. At the exit, there is an area with dog fountains, which is appreciated. Here you can also see a Natural Monument, which forms its set of dunes and the island of Deva.
As a curious fact, its name comes from the Asturian term for sand: sable. It has a lifeguard service, showers, and parking, but there are no beach bars, so it's best to bring a snack to help you cope with the heat.
