Beach destinations are Antioquians' favorites in 2025: What other preferences do Paisas have?

When it comes to traveling, everyone is excited about itineraries, planning a great vacation, and making the most of their time. However, these dynamics can vary from person to person and their customs. That's why Antioquia has a unique way of experiencing this experience.
For example, Antioquians have seen a 33% increase in reservations made between January and April, compared to the same period last year, according to data from the multi-channel agency Viajes Falabella.
This means that tourism, both domestic and international, continues to rise, driven by the public's preference for comprehensive experiences, couples' travel, and flexible payment methods.

To better understand this behavior, the travel platform has identified four key factors that reflect the trends in tourism in Paisa so far this year and anticipate what will be one of the peak booking periods for the 2025 calendar year.

Travelers from Medellín show a notable preference for sun and beach destinations. “ Nationally, the most booked destinations are Santa Marta (14%), Cartagena (13%), and San Andrés (9%). Internationally, Punta Cana leads with 17% of total reservations, followed by Panama (6%) and Cancún (4%), consolidating their position as the favorite among Antioquian travelers,” says Daniel Figueroa, Commercial Manager of Viajes Falabella Colombia.

The average length of trips booked during the first months of the year remains between three and four nights, with couples' trips predominating, followed by family getaways and business trips. The majority of bookings are for package tours, with flights and hotels being the most popular complementary products.
Easter and mid-year holidays are the most popular months for bookings. The week with the highest number of reservations was April 14-20, coinciding with Holy Week. The long weekends in June, which coincide with the mid-year holidays, are expected to further boost travel figures, consolidating this season as one of the strongest for tourism in Paisa.
Payment methods and advance bookings 72% of travelers from Medellín prefer to make their reservations by credit card, while 15% opt for the PSE payment button and 13% use a debit card. “Furthermore, we found that travelers from Medellín display a more planned approach, typically making their reservations up to two months in advance. This reflects not only greater awareness when traveling, but also smarter purchasing decisions, which allow for better rates,” says Daniel Figueroa, commercial manager of Viajes Falabella Colombia.

Based on these key points, a new edition of Travel Fest 2025 will be held, an event that seeks to boost the tourism industry and offer Colombian travelers multiple benefits for planning their vacations in advance.
"This year, we will hold the Travel Fest from May 15 to 18, with an extension until May 25, in three strategic cities: Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali ," Figueroa said.
During this event, the multi-channel agency will offer discounts of up to 66% on select products, coupons of up to 2 million pesos at hotel chains, a 25% discount on tours, and an additional 15% when paying with Banco Falabella. Additionally, customers will receive personalized advice and multiple financing options, including interest-free installments.
This event, which isn't focused on a specific destination, will offer options for all tastes and travel styles. " It's an excellent opportunity for those looking to plan their next vacation. We've seen that many families are looking for unique getaways during the mid-year season," adds Figueroa. In fact, nationwide bookings for this season have grown 25% compared to the same period last year, reflecting a clear trend toward advance planning.
